Open GameDay Thread: Texas at Nebraska

Well, it's go time, folks. As noted below, the weather is pretty nasty in Lincoln. I'm optimistically speculating that this works to our advantage, thoguh I couldd just be grasping here. I really don't know.

I do think Texas has the (slightly) better defensive line and the (significantly) better offensive line. That makes me think we'll win today, but it's no sure thing.

Texas taking its 18 game conference and 15 game road winning streak to Lincoln for a great test. Your own comments, questions, criticisms, and so forth go here.

Thats what...
we needed right off the bat!  HOOK EM!!!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:14 AM CDT   0 recs

Good Start
Excellent.  Too bad he didn't get to the end zone.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:15 AM CDT   0 recs

Well
Its better than not scoring at all on the first drive.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:16 AM CDT   0 recs

Well
We should have made a better attempt at the end zone than that.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:17 AM CDT   0 recs

Greg Davis
Hope this isn't a sign of things to come.  Three straight running plays.  Would have thought a fade pass to Sweed against an injury riddled secondary would have been a nice call.

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:17 AM CDT   0 recs

I hear that
I thought for sure they would throw it to him.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:18 AM CDT   0 recs

Good stop...
Always nice to score on the first drive and hold on their first.  Hopefully Greg doesnt hold back.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:25 AM CDT   0 recs

Shadow of own goal post
GD's actually forced to attempt to get a few first downs.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:27 AM CDT   0 recs

Need to have....
Colt line up under center.  Plays are taking too long to develop.

by Bevoboy94 on Oct 21, 2006 11:30 AM CDT   0 recs

Quan wide open
Colt needs to settle down.

Wind
Seems to be a factor, and neither team has been able to run so far. I can't watch the game, so I really can't tell.

Runing Game
I know UT has a great running game but beginning to believe they might have to rely on it more than I first thought...

Bad tackling in the UT secondary...That hurt...

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:33 AM CDT   0 recs

Big play
They've had a problem giving up big plays on 3rd down for quite some time.  Given the weather, that hurts.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:35 AM CDT   0 recs

Can we go for a tackle
instead of an INT???

Just ONCE??

Real men DO watch volleyball - AND women's basketball!

by patienthornsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:35 AM CDT   0 recs

Can we...
just stop someone on 3rd down!  I dont care what we do, just stop them on third down!!!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:37 AM CDT   0 recs

Weather the Storm
Curious to see if UT can weather the storm of emotion in the first quarter.  No pun intended.

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:39 AM CDT   0 recs

3rd and 9
Can we actually get some yardage on 1st or 2nd down?

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:40 AM CDT   0 recs

Could we run a vertical passing play
and give up on the bubble screens

by aorist9 on Oct 21, 2006 11:41 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Flanker Screen
Think Nebraska knows it is coming?

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:41 AM CDT   0 recs

Kindle
I admit I do not follow the UT game's all that much.  Living in Dallas all I heard about was Sergio Kindle.  Has he played much and if so how has he done?  Thanks.

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:43 AM CDT   0 recs

We need...
to get out of the spread and run the ball right down their throat.  I could call Nebraska's Defense against the spread!  McCoy IS NOT going to keep the ball.  Tackle the running back everytime no matter what happens.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:43 AM CDT   0 recs

Offense
12 plays, 20 yards.  This cannot continue.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:44 AM CDT   0 recs

vertical
colt definitely can't throw it vertical against the wind

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 11:44 AM CDT   0 recs

When
he is in he is a monster.  Kindle that is.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:44 AM CDT   0 recs

Good hold
Let's get it going on offense.  Time to open things up a little.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:45 AM CDT   0 recs

Alright
wind at our back in 27 seconds...

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:45 AM CDT   0 recs

am so sick of
a completed pass for negative yards

by ClassofEarl on Oct 21, 2006 11:45 AM CDT   0 recs

after we...
get out of the ENDZONE!

by aorist9 on Oct 21, 2006 11:48 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Need some quick hitting runs
The sloww developing run plays aren't particularly helpful in a game like this. You've got to hit the line quickly

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:49 AM CDT   0 recs

Y/A
Usually a good indicator of GD's game plan.   Why we are still throwing the ball more than we are running it is beyond me?

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:50 AM CDT   0 recs

Like that
Much better - hit the line quickly with Charles

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:51 AM CDT   0 recs

good under center running
let's see if it was just because of the the field position.

by aorist9 on Oct 21, 2006 11:51 AM CDT   0 recs

holy shit
look what happens with a fullback and the I

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 11:51 AM CDT   0 recs

Thats what I'm
talking about!  Line up under center with a lead block and we have more yards on that run play than we have in all the pass plays combined

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:51 AM CDT   0 recs

JC
More JC, more, more.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:51 AM CDT   0 recs

Yes!
Great throw, Colt!  Gotta sling it in this weather. A little behindd Finley, but it had zip.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:53 AM CDT   0 recs

How does
Colt throw so much better on the run?  Oh yeah, he can barely see over the line when he is in the pocket.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:53 AM CDT   0 recs

Whoa
The forward pass is a wonderful thing.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:54 AM CDT   0 recs

i'm so sick of the spread
we don't have vince anymore

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 11:54 AM CDT   0 recs

Those are
the types of plays that can kill a drive, I would rather see a screen than a shovel pass.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:55 AM CDT   0 recs

GREAT PUNT!
We needed that!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:56 AM CDT   0 recs

Sweet
Field position battle important.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:56 AM CDT   0 recs

thank god
for special teams so far today

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 11:56 AM CDT   0 recs

Is Nebraska
afraid to field punts or what?
I don't think they've caught one yet.

by boomhauer25 on Oct 21, 2006 11:57 AM CDT   0 recs

Need
3 and out would be nice.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:58 AM CDT   0 recs

Scott Derry
Has two great, shoe string tackles on running plays today.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:59 AM CDT   0 recs

I hate it.
when ABC tries to use one of those stupid camera angles.  Just show the game.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:59 AM CDT   0 recs

Punting
into the wind and out of the endzone.  I smell great field postition.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:00 PM CDT   0 recs

Bring everybody
We could use the punt block right about now.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 12:01 PM CDT   0 recs

broken record
run the ball please

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 12:01 PM CDT   0 recs

Why does
ABC insist on showcasing Colt McCoy every week.  I might be have a bias because I played Jim Ned in high school and they always kicked our asses.  Lets see something on Sweed or Charles.  I am tired of seeing the same map every week from ABC showing where Tuscola is.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:02 PM CDT   0 recs

Damn
We can't kill ourselves with penalties, we're having enough trouble getting 10 yards.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 12:04 PM CDT   0 recs

Selvin
just blew that guy up!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:04 PM CDT   0 recs

YES
Love it. I like that we're phasing out the zone read.

Good decision.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:06 PM CDT   0 recs

I love it
when the defense stops us just short of the 10, means we can get another first down!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:07 PM CDT   0 recs

JC
JC show?  Love it.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:07 PM CDT   0 recs

2nd and 1 from the 2
Who do you give it to?

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:07 PM CDT   0 recs

shocking
i am shocked that we are moving the ball so effectively on the ground

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 12:08 PM CDT   0 recs

I give it to Selvin
Right over Blalock's outside shoulder.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:08 PM CDT   0 recs

Christ
Twedie's a senior. That's awful.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:09 PM CDT   0 recs

stupid penalties
WHY!  2 and half a yard and we freaking false start!  We are killing ourselves.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:09 PM CDT   0 recs

WOOO
After an awful throw to Limas, Colt with a PERFECT throw to Quan.  Love it.

Way to go Colt!

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:11 PM CDT   0 recs

Nice read
I like the way Colt looked to his 2nd or 3rd reciever on that.  Made the defense freeze.

by boomhauer25 on Oct 21, 2006 12:13 PM CDT   0 recs

Quan
im not sure what limas was thinking on the previous play but good pass to Quan. hate the blocked extra point though. we need all the points we can get today.

by kansashornsfan on Oct 21, 2006 12:14 PM CDT   0 recs

3 and out
We need this.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:15 PM CDT   0 recs

Front seven
Playing very well on defense. Miller and Lokey are blowing up everything Nebraska tries to run.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:17 PM CDT   0 recs

Back 4
Continues to be suspect.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 12:18 PM CDT   0 recs

Gotta Cover those WRs
Texas cant let em get away with these big pass plays. Thats the only way they can beat the Texas D. They sure as hell cant run the ball on Texas.

by kansashornsfan on Oct 21, 2006 12:18 PM CDT   0 recs

bob davie
has been doing a great job today

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 12:21 PM CDT   0 recs

That wasnt
even the back 4, it was a LB in coverage.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:23 PM CDT   0 recs

WOOOOOOO
What a gorgeos throw.  Who loves Colt? We do!

Sweed for All America?

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:23 PM CDT   0 recs

That
is how you take advantage of a turnover.

by boomhauer25 on Oct 21, 2006 12:23 PM CDT   0 recs

That's 9
Nine Colt to Limas touchdowns.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:24 PM CDT   0 recs

Whoa
That'll might give us a chance at more points before the end of the half.  Hopefully we can blow it open a little bit.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 12:24 PM CDT   0 recs

GD
always goes for the throat after a turnover in good field position

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 12:24 PM CDT   0 recs

How about
20 TDs to 3 INTs on the year for McCoy?  Am I right with those numbers?

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:25 PM CDT   0 recs

MI Griffin
is a stud!

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:27 PM CDT   0 recs

good thing
we called out okam - it's affected the entire front four

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 12:27 PM CDT   0 recs

By the way
We're doing this without Robison or Okam.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:27 PM CDT   0 recs

Good call, Jason
While Okam's sitting it out, the rest got the message.  The BON encouragement call out is magic.

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 12:28 PM CDT   0 recs

your right
aorist, we need more points now!

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:28 PM CDT   0 recs

20 yards deep?

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 12:28 PM CDT   0 recs
